The Fire District is excited to announce that we have secured additional limited grant funding through the hard work of Mountain Green Fire Chief Brian Brendel and Fire Chief Boyd Carrigan of Morgan Fire&EMS. Our Wildland Safety Mitigation Program "Chipper Days" will take place in a limited area, the Highlands and Whisper Ridge, and any streets in between including Poll Dr and the Monte Verde area. These areas are the highest wild fire risk areas in Mountain Green. Chipper Days is used to encourage folks to remove their dead and downed and overgrown foliage, and to drag it to the street so it can be chipped by our contractor and hauled away. This reduces wild fire risk in these most-threatened communities.
You may begin taking your piles of cut timber and brush to curbside on May 3rd. The LAST day for piling up your brush and limbs is MAY 17th. After that date, no more piles of mitigation will be accepted for chipping. The chipping will commence after May 17th.
YOU MUST REGISTER YOUR PILES OF BRUSH OR THEY WILL NOT BE PICKED UP. Please include address, hours worked and number of persons, and any additional expenses such as chainsaw fuel or food for large parties of workers. The grant funding depends on our accuracy in reporting.
IF YOU NEED ASSISTANCE IN PERFORMING THE CUTTING AND DRAGGING (MITIGATION) OF YOUR TREES AND BRUSH, PLEASE CONTACT:
Highland Ward Area: Kent Wilkerson 801-845-6481
Mountain Green Ward Area: (Whisper Ridge, Monte Verde) Dave Farnsworth 801-979-8434
Our 5-year Chipper Days Utah State DNR grant ran out last year, and we were unable to extend it. We had been able to stretch it to a 7th year last year, but the Grant is now exhausted. We were disappointed to recently learn we were unsuccessful in obtaining the US Forest Service Community Wildland Defense Grant which we were hoping to get. We will continue to try to secure a more substantial grant to include the entire community in the future.
Again, we wish to thank Morgan County Fire for securing the additional Grant Funding to make this year's program possible.
